Dune Climbers. Deadvlei, Namib-Naukluft National Park, Namibia. Ancient sand dunes nearly 1,000 feet high block the Tsauchab River some 35 miles short of the Atlantic Ocean, creating a salt lake that rarely has water in it. #whywehunt   #immenhofair   #immenhofsafaris   #namibia   #safari   #landscapes   #canon   #photography   #scenics   #deserts   #lakes   #dunes   #climbing   #namib   #naukluft   _MG_4857 copy.JPG

Eric Dinger of Powderhook writes an important message here: In his timeless 1949 classic, A Sand County Almanac, Aldo Leopold famously wrote, "There are two spiritual dangers in not owning a farm. One is the danger of supposing that breakfast comes from the grocery, and the other that heat comes from the furnace." I recently came across a video that highlights a very real fear I have for my kids - the danger Leopold prophesied over 65 years ago.My teenage daughter is a pretty normal 15 year-old kid. At any moment she s a monster cookie of sweet and salty, wit and sarcasm, delightfulness and delinquency. Monster cookies are wonderful, if not unpredictable. But, this cookie comes with one constant: her phone. My goodness she loves her phone. It s more than a communication device; it s her hobby, her companion and her lifeline to the minute-by-minute updates she holds so dear.Generational differences aside, her compulsion for omni-connectedness worries me. Perhaps ironically, it s my pe

Sadly, you won t hear about this DU project in the nightly news. They ll cover a PETA or HSUS stunt that produces not one wild critter, but ignore hunter/conservationists who continue to save, create and perpetuate millions of acres of productive habitat that sustains the wildlife we all need and love. DU is raising 2 BILLION bucks for ducks! Spread the word and celebrate!MEMPHIS, Tenn. – July 21, 2015 – Ducks Unlimited Inc., Ducks Unlimited Canada, Ducks Unlimited de Mexico and Wetlands America Trust are committed to making DU’s vision of abundant wetlands a reality through a new campaign titled “Rescue Our Wetlands: Banding Together for Waterfowl.” The $2 billion continental campaign was launched at Ducks Unlimited’s 78th annual convention in Milwaukee. Find the highest 155-gr. B.C. bullet in .308 and the highest B.C. 140-gr. in .264". Fire at top velocity: 2700 fps in the 260 Rem, 2800 fps in the 308 Win. This is why we hunt. Spotted this dusky sunbird while hunting oryx in Namibia. Sunbirds are an example of convergent evolution. Like New World hummingbirds, sunbirds have evolved to sip nectar from flowers, thus the long, decurved beak. Most sunbirds also sport colorful, iridescent throat feathers. Alas, this is the most drab species. Unlike hummingbirds, sunbirds cannot hover. Next time I m hunting Africa I hope I can see some of the more colorful sunbirds.  Dusky Sunbird copy.JPG
