Images like this tug human heartstrings and create empathy for wildlife. Too bad we can t direct that empathy to where it could really help -- habitat. Cold and snow don t harm wildlife nearly so much as highways, golf courses, housing developments, plowed fields, overgrazed pastures, reservoirs, mowed ditches and groomed woodlots.
