Exiting solitude on Dancing Springs Ranch already today. No Coronavirus has appeared, but pre-dawn clouds flew past crescent moon with Venus and Mars in attendance while resident pair of horned owls called. And then it started snowing. And then we had a small earthquake. Wonder what else the day will bring. #nature #spring #life #vicissitude #unpredictablelife #springsnow #ronspomeroutdoors #dancingspringsranch #earthquake

Got my partner a new D.T. Systems 1450 training collar with on-demand beeper locator. He says it’s already prevented Cricket from chasing a goose into a dangerous, flood stage river; stopped her from chasing a quail across busy highway; called her off a Kentucky skunk; and taught her proper HEAL etiquette in a week. #dtsystems #ecollartraining #ecollar #gspofinstagram #germanshorthairedpointer #dogtraining

From the Dancing Springs Ranch dept. of Housing & Rural Development. Made in the USA. Affordable housing for bluebirds, tree swallows, chickadees, kestrels, screech owls, etc. 6 hrs work by 3 “veterans” — Carol, Ron and Ron —converted $60 in lumber and nails into 23 boxes plus 3 more cut and ready to assemble. And just in time. When I returned home our first two mountain bluebirds of spring we’re flitting along the snow fence. I got two houses up before dark. Lots more work ahead. #habitat #habitatforbirds #nestbox #birdbox #bluebird #kestrel #screechowl #dancingspringsranch #ronspomeroutdoors #woodworking #whywehunt #conservation #wildlifeconservation #hunterscare #huntervationist #makingadifference #ifyoubuildittheywillcome #homesweethome

Just a boring trigger. What’s the big deal? Precision is the big deal. A proper trigger like this Timney I installed on a Rem 700 7mm RUM a creeping, slightly grating 4.3# pull into a crisp 2# that’s crisp as a cold apple. A good trigger can turn a 2 MOA rifle 1 MOA or better. #timneytriggers #remington700 #trigger #rifle #accuracy #7mmrum #7rum #7ultramag #m700 #ronspomeroutdoors @timney_triggers

After fattening itself on a couple of our chickens, this coyote volunteered to serve as an all-organic, free-range, self-replicating, biodegradable, sustainable use garment. Fur buyer traded us $50 for this prime pelt. He’ll likely sell it to a furrier for $100. Who knows how much it will sell for as a finished coat or jacket. Fur. It’s Nature’s original clothing and endlessly sustainable. I don’t know where this whitetail was bred and fed, but it shows what selective breeding and superior nutrition can do for antler production. In the wilds something like this has never grown. No survival benefit for the species,so excessive antler growth is weeded out of the herd. Reportedly measures about 600 inches of times. #animalhusbandry #sciconvention2020 #taxidermy #manipulation #geneticmanipulation #selectivebreeding #whitetaildeer #antlers #scishow2020 #ronspomeroutdoors

Here’s a juxtaposition to my Cooper rifle photo. Plastic has neither the beauty nor soul of fine walnut. But if pretty is as pretty does, this Ultra Light Arms M20 in 284 Winchester is stunningly gorgeous. The first season I hunted with it: 11 shots, 10 animals. I gave mnt. goat an anchoring shot so it wouldn’t kick over a cliff. With scope, Talley rings, 3 Nosler 140-gr. Partitions aboard, the field-ready rig weighs just under 6 pounds. Groups 3” under 1.25” consistently. That’s been good enough to take everything engaged out to 411 yards, the farthest I’ve ever had to stretch it. Melvin Forbes created a legend with his innovative rifles. Durable, functional, minimal, balanced, deadly and a pure delight to carry. Recoil? Never bothered me or anyone who’s ever shot it. I generally used a Leupold Compact 2-7 or VX3 2.5-8x36 with it. This Nikon has good optical quality, but is 3 or 4 ounces heavier. #ultralightarmsm20 #ultralightarms #ultralightrifle #mountainrifle #fiberglassstocks @talley_rings #nikonscope #huntingrifle #zeisshunting #lowaboots #284win #284winchester #petrifle #favoriterifle #ronspomeroutdoors
