Look. A snow angel. Winter is perfect time to experiment with high key photography. Caught this ring billed gull against a snow background on a cloudy day. Canon 70D, 100-400 IS, autofocus. #wildlifephotography #highkeyphotography #gull #ringbilledgull #canonphotography #canon70D #canon100400ii

Today’s snow reminds me of this flurry we enjoyed during a deep wilderness backpack sheep hunt in B.C. About 18 years ago. One of my favorite guides, Dawson Deveny, and outfitter Bryan Martin led the tour of this spectacular mountain country where mountain goats outnumbered Stone’s sheep by a ratio of several dozen to 1! But we got our ram, that little 5# Kifaru Rambling Rifle in 300 WSM spitting a 165-grain Swift Scirocco 401 yards to the shoulder. Leupold VXII 2-7x33mm scope. Dawson loaned me the plastic Koflach mountaineering boots and I kept the blisters for weeks to prove it. What a glorious time in Nature’s bosom. A hard, cold, but beautiful bosom. #sheephunt #stonesheephunting #kifaruramblingrifle #300wsm #swiftscirocco #leupoldoptics #backpackhunting #ronspomeroutdoors #snowsquall

One clue that suggests you might be hunting the wrong birds. Huge flocks of rock doves (aka barn pigeons) assaulted the corn field in which we were decoying geese near Lubbock. Geese weren’t nearly as eager. #goosehunting #goosedecoys #pigeons #pigeonhunting #dtsystems #standingstonekennels #hunting #ronspomeroutdoors #wildfowlerconcealment

Not a bad window view. See it from the Dornan’s Pizza Bar in Moose, WY. (Jackson Hole.) The pizza and beer are lovely too. During the days drive and snowshoe hike we spotted 12 moose, some mule deer, bison, 1 coyote, several swans and bald eagles, and a few thousand elk. #tetons #jacksonhole #mountainview #mountains #winterinjacksonhole #grandtetonnationalpark #grandtetons #dornanspizza #ronspomeroutdoors

Mossberg Patriot Revere has the finest stock lines and figured walnut of any factory rifle I’ve ever bought. That they sell for much less than $1000 in this day and age is remarkable. Despite being chambered 6.5 Creedmoor, this tool has in seasons accounted for mule deer, whitetails, blacktails, coyotes and ibex. It’s not a Mauser or Holland & Holland, but it works and looks good doing that. Z5 Swarovski sure helps with the sighting and Riton 10x42 binocular finds the game. Nosler 142-grain ABLR bullets really do the job. Find or build a rig that gives you pride and shoots what you need the way you need it and you’ll enjoy successful days afield. #huntingrifle #patriotrevere #mossbergrevere @mossbergcorp #ritonoptics #binocular #10x42binocular #z5scope #swarovskioptik_hunting #nosleraccubondlongrange #deerhunting @ritonoptics @noslerinc @winchesterammunition #boltactionrifle #rifle #mossbergpatriot
